Planning for Uncertainty (webinar)

In March 2020, our world suddenly changed. The coronavirus outbreak unfolded like a bad sci-fi movie, and imposed many differences on our lives and how we do business… and in some cases, threatens the very survival of our businesses.

We faced more uncertainty in our business environment than any time since World War II, and our management, clients and colleagues have never seen anything like it. Horrifically, there had been close to 10,000 deaths in Canada by then, and just under a quarter-million deaths in the United States. Economists initially thought GDP would drop as much as 40%. Unemployment reached 13.7% in May 2020, an all-time high at that point. And our border with the US was closed.

As management consultants, how can we address this type of uncertainty when helping our clients with strategic planning?

The answer is scenario planning, a technique used in past times of crisis. Our strategic planning webinar presents a practitioner’s version of scenario planning that consultants and business planners can use.

Here’s what you’ll learn.

  • Essential questions that any strategic plan currently being developed must address;
  • An overview of scenario planning;
  • How scenario planning can help you answer these essential questions;
  • An example scenario; and,
  • Practical tips.

But don’t expect a definitive view of how the coronavirus outbreak will unfold (scientists and doctors don’t know for sure either).

Who should attend?

This event is for management consultants, senior executives, and business planners in all industries who are responsible for choosing and implementing business strategies to produce results in these uncertain times.

A free online webinar was held for members of the Canadian Association of Management Consultants on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
